COURSE DESCRIPTION: Physical Education is education of, by, and through human movement. Physical activity is essential to optimum growth and development of healthy children. This class consists of a wide range of activities to provide a basis for your children to choose his or her favorite activities for the future. During the school year, we might not get to all of these activities and new activities may replace old ones.
COURSE OUTLINE
KINDERGARTEN – 3rd GRADES
Manipulative activities: Balloons Beanbags Ball skills Bowling Parachute Scoops and Balls Juggling Scooters Hula hoop Ribbons
Locomotors skills Walking Fast walks Jogging Running Skipping Galloping Jumping Leaping Sliding Hopping
Nonlocomotor skills Bending & stretching Pushing & pulling Raising & lowering Twisting & turning Bouncing Circling, etc.
Other activities & skills Low organized games Jump rope Dance Stunts & tumbling Exercises T-Ball Movement learning Fitness activities Rings, balance beams, Climbing wall activities Stall bars
All sports taught in upper grades are introduced in the primary grades by concentrating on fundamental skills and playing lead-up games.
4th – 5th GRADES
Kickball Introduction to all of the activities and sports played in the upper grades.
All activities and sports are modified to make them age appropriate and to include maximum participation.
5th GRADE – We introduce the “Having A Ball” ballroom dancing program in a modified version of the original one.
6th – 8th GRADES
16’ softball Track & Field Tug –o-war Basketball Volleyball Exercises Juggling Soccer Great Body Shop Floor hockey Jump rope Leg & arm wrestling Tumbling Rings, balance beam & Football Stall bars Fitness activities Climbing wall activities Dance
HOMEWORK: Practice class activities; be active, and work on improving fitness
PREPARATION: All students need to be prepared for P.E. class. The acceptable gym uniform colors are blue, white, black, or gray.
GYM UNIFORM: t-shirt or sweatshirt (plain-no writing), Gym shorts or sweatpants, Gym shoes, *Track-A-Thon t-shirts are acceptable
